I think there are some crucial data elements missing from your post in order to answer your question. Companies will almost always look to take care of their bottom line (stingy or not), but the majority of them also want their employees to feel fairly compensated.
I think it is common to seek a 10-30% salary hike, but this all depends on where you are currently vis-a-vis the salary band for that type of role. Are you seeking lateral roles? Are the companies you are applying to similarly positioned as your current company (e.g., Tier 1 bank vs. startup)? If you are already at the high end of the salary range for that type of role, then there may not be that much more room to grow compensation wise; you might have to start looking for a role with more responsibilities or a level up. Also, are you disclosing your current salary to the potential employers or just telling them what you are seeking?
That seems like a REALLY high hike. Not that it can't be done but I hardly ever see that big of an increase. And companies are stingier than ever right now.
What kind of justification are you giving for the 30% hike? I feel like that + the area makes all the difference
It really depends on what you're currently making. You're not always, automatically going to get a 30% hike just for switching companies.
I don’t think a 30% increase is too much to ask to change firms. You may need to target different roles if your salary expectations are beyond the budget of the role. Or adjust your negotiation salary. For example, you’re not telling them you make $X salary early on in the process and then later negotiating for that 30% increase?
