Hi everyone, realizing my career may be incompatible with my needs at home (I have a school age child with special needs). Any moms/dads find any companies or jobs in the UX field that are part time? I am wondering if it’s possible to stay in this field or if I need to take a step back and figure out something new. What has worked for any of the working moms/dads out there. I need to be free from 2pm onwards.

I used to be a stay-at-home-mom and freelance. There are a ton of websites where you can find short term gigs like https://www.upwork.com/, https://www.fiverr.com/ etc. It takes couple weeks to establish your profile and apply for projects, but once you’ve done couple projects, clients keep coming.

Have you considered freelancing?

I used to do this with a full time job (before kids). Where do you go about finding good freelance gigs these days?

Maybe work for a company that allows you to work from home?

Maybe try Toptal? I was freelancing there for a while and I was getting consistent part-time/hourly projects with companies that were very interesting

Applying to roles within the same federal agency. I know you need one year within the probationary period, but can I apply to a higher GS level? For example, if I'm GS 9, receive a promotion to GS 11 at the end of probation, would i be able to apply to GS 13 roles if I'm qualified? Tried researching this for hours but only found info on applying to other agencies.

So I just started a new job in sales (B2B specifically). All my life I’ve been in blue collar jobs, military, then construction work ect. I don’t have much money saved to get myself my own business cards as I’m sure they are important to have, I’ve got all the info that I need to go out and start selling. I guess what I’m looking for is just tips on how you guys were successful walking into a whole new arena if that makes sense?

Fellow enterprise tech sales fish, I’m interested to hear your perspective. I’ve been in a rut lately and seriously considering leaving sales. I think it’s primarily fueled by one thing:
After a 6 mo cycle I closed a large deal (4x the average deal size) prior to receiving delayed 2022 comp plans. The deal counts as a 2022 deal. On last years comp plan it would’ve paid out at 10%. This year it pays out at a measly 4%.

How do you/have you navigated your way through and out of these situations?

Any thoughts on Sidley's London office? How sharp elbowed are the associates and how much do partners genuinely try and help you develop a career? I’m in-house at a small company (60 people), started right out of law school about 5 years ago. We had a legal team of 5 then. Everyone has left and we just hired a new GC. I went from $70k to $100k a little over a year ago. I am expecting an offer from a firm doing business law work but think this might be an opportunity to go to my current employer and ask for a significant raise, with new offer in hand. Any thoughts or advice going into this?

Looking to exit from 195k base to a sales role base 140 + 40 in guaranteed bonus year 1 to make up for the lengthy sales cycle. I know in the long run total comp through equity and sales commission bonus can be much higher but having a hard time making the jump… mostly my ego to drop drastically in TCO the first year after spending all these years trying to increase base. Still interviewing - unicorn saas account exec. What would you do?

Need help thinking through this…Debating leaving to a tech startup. Very early stage ($3-7M ARR), would have a big role leading strategy and Ops. It’s a cash paycut, which is a bummer but the equity would be pretty good. Just nervous about leaving before hitting the full manager role and taking a paycut in this market to bank on equity. For those of you have left, what kind of questions did you ask yourself to know it was the right time?

What does it mean if there’s a NEP at the firm who’s been there for a long time (20+ years), but never got promoted to EP? Never held leadership roles too. Does it usually mean EPs does not like the NEP enough to get promoted?

The NEP has a book of business, though no idea how much it brings in.

I recently took a job with a top tier investment manager, which is a step up in title and responsibilities. I went through the typical “notice” conversations with my current employer. My boss, who was a significant supporter and mentor of me during my time at my current firm, told me that he doesn’t think my new firm is “long term” for me. Anyone ever get something like this before? It threw me off because I was hoping for his support, understanding that it’s tough for him temporarily

I joined a project that had already started and the team already settled on creating a user journey map, even though none of them are designers or in ux. Given this new field and type of work, I've been having a really tough time. Anyone mind sharing what helped get you through your first ux project?
