Anyone using Sonic for Wi-Fi? How are they?
It has been 2+ weeks since I completed the Interview & Psychometric Assessment rounds with Macquarie Group , but yet to hear anything from them. I also followed up with HR but with no response. For the record, the interview went well. Any idea if they usually take this amount of time to get back? If I got rejected, why not communicate directly?

Retiring to take on another job offer doesn’t sound like leaving the rat race behind.
Nope they went from one job to another it sounds like to me.
People can semi-retire but they are still working or they can completely retire hence no working.
My landlord is retired (supposedly 100% disabled) and his significant other is semi- retired with only working a few hours a month.
If they didn’t actually retire, it doesn’t really sound like they left anything behind. It seems more like they just took a better job. But at the end of the day, aren’t we all still stuck in the corporate rat race?

Not everyone has that strict of a definition of retirement. They are retiring from THIS company, and deciding whether to pursue part-time work that is interesting and rewarding. They hold all the cards, since they are financially independent at this point.
Good for them. I’ve been ready to get out of the rat race for years, but not there yet. Maybe ask for a referral if it is another amazing job offer. Won’t hurt!

Now that's a great idea! "Take me with you!"
So, your "bestie" is 62 + years old? Retirement age is 65 (soon to be 70) although you can retire with partial retirement benefits at age 62. The only other ways I could see them being able to retire is if your bestie came into a large sum of money or is marrying into money.
Even if I were to win a multimillion or multibillion dollars, I would still stay working not because I have to, but I want to and want to stay productive. I figure I have another 15-20 or more productive years ahead of me even after working in corporate America for 37 years (I am 55 years young).

"Retirement age" is whatever age you stop working. The rule of 55 gives you access to your retirement accounts if you choose to retire from that company anytime after 55. I had full access to my pension at 57, although it continues to grow. 401k is accessible at 59.5 without penalty and brokerage accounts are accessible any time.
