I say if you can swing both, do it! I’ve been working FT from home for two companies for over a year (primary Company— I’ve been with them for 14 years) and have had no issues (legal, or otherwise).
The two companies are completely different with no competition and they don’t know I have work for them and another company and vice versa. Like someone posted recently, don’t tell anyone outside your home about the second job and make your primary job the most important. I block off meetings at the secondary company and vice versa so I don’t have two meetings going on at the same time. It has happened once and I had to mute a team meeting at the primary to talk to someone really quick at the secondary but it worked out and no one found out or suspected anything.
I’d highly recommend changing your tax info to indicate you have two jobs and possibly have extra tax withheld at both companies so you don’t end up oweing taxes. I made that mistake and ended up owning this year because I was scared someone could find out but they didn’t. I’ve since changed it, have a small amount extra withheld, and I am on track not to owe next year.
I’m trying to get a place where I have my own business and do freelance work so I can get out of the corporate world BUT two FT WFH jobs have allowed me to pay off my student loan, pay off a second car, pay off credit card debt, and I’m on track to pay down my home mortgage substantially before the end of the this year. It’s great if you can handle it! I’d highly recommend it! Good luck!
I deal mainly with creating and maintaining Excel, Tableau, and Power BI reports that contain consumer data, call center metrics, volume reports, and trends.
As far as background check, I’m thinking my primary job showed up but they assumed I left it for the secondary. Also, the secondary’s code of conduct allows for multiple jobs as long as you don’t let it interfere with your job responsibilities.
I say go for it as long as it doesn’t overwhelm you! Since writing that reply, I also am trying to tap into freelancing.
