Should be 6% of your tips. Definitely get some clarification. Otherwise if you get overall 20% tips, you’re only keeping 14 %. All assuming you make a tipping wage and the kitchen staff is paid a full wage.
I agree. I would just sneak and take my fair share that way you would fit right in like the rest of them.

Yeah, that does sound steep, especially if it’s on total sales and not just food. Usually, tip outs to the kitchen are a percentage of food sales, since they’re not involved in drink orders. It’s smart you’re holding back, but definitely keep an eye on it and maybe ask around quietly — sometimes places just run it differently.
I agree with the comment above. You should only be tipping out on your tips. I have never heard of a place doing it any other way.

I think you definitely need clarification. If you're lucky to get 20% (assuming a few people are going to stiff you), giving nearly a third out to the kitchen seems high.
