The Swiss are highly motivated to negotiate the rate down. This new rate will be temporary. However, even assuming they negotiate the same 15% as the EU, there’s going to be price pressure on the upside, which will likely drive more sales to the secondary market (causing pre-owned prices to increase a bit as well). There’s a good recent article in the WSJ.
Another reason to take a flight to Japan and buy a GS
I wouldn’t anticipate brands absorbing the cost. There’s the cost that the dealer is going to pay which will include the tariffs. The. There is the cost the dealer is going to charge you. Might want to brush up on negotiating skills to reduce the mark up cost.
I think we’ll see 39% increases from microbrands and maybe 20-25% from the major brands.
The only way that the brands will absorb the cost is if they think the tariffs will be temporary or if they will slide the increase up over some period of time. There’s no way they can absorb a 39% tax. I do wonder if there’s a strategy to import at cost so that the tariff is based on a smaller number. Also the value of all your existing watches just jumped. If you want a new watch, I would go buy today before the prices increase (don’t know if it already too late).
I fly out of the country for my watches.
And then you declare the watches and pay the duty at customs?

lol the only people “absorbing the tariffs” are going to be the buyers. Will be cheaper to just fly to Europe. Expect the price of used and vintage to rise also.
Cheaper to fly over and get it locally
