I would definitely research the agent/agency that approached you. Also, it's a diaper commercial. You're not necessarily putting your kid in movies or TV shows after this one commercial. And yeah, whatever you get paid, use it to fund the 529 plan.
My daughter was in child beauty pageants - yes, we were part of the Toddlers and Tiaras crowd. She was spotted by a few agencies. Did a lot of print modeling work from about age 4-7. I put all those earnings in her 529, which is paying for her college now.
How legitimate was the offer? I think every parent has heard "your baby should be in commercials!" at some point, but 99% of the time it's just an offhand comment. If this is a real opportunity, I'd consider the offer. I share the same misgivings about kids being on TV as you, but I don't think that's anywhere near as much of a concern when they're so young and won't remember any of it.
Yeah, that's a no for me, dawg.
This would depend a lot on how random this encounter was. If it was someone you know who works for an ad agency and the whole thing is on the level, you might to consider it. But if it the comment was made by someone who really has no credibility in your eyes, it should just be laughed off. Generally speaking, things like that are arranged by casting directors or people at agencies, and it would be unusual for them to approach someone from out of left field.
I would be very, very cautious about modeling and acting jobs that approach you randomly, especially for children. I've heard that it can be potentially a front for trafficking or other serious problems. Just be really careful and like AE1 said, do tons of research.
Everything about that seems sketchy. Also, unless you’re being hired by a legitimate talent agency for one of the big brands like pampers then don’t put your kid in a diaper on video. Sounds like a good way to traumatize your child if not something worse.
If it makes you uncomfortable, pass.
I would take it as a compliment firstly. Secondly, I would go with your gut. If you felt uncomfortable try to figure out why. Usually gut feelings are right! Good Luck on whatever you decide!

Thanks. It definitely was flattering. As a father, I need to make sure I protect her from potential harm. My instincts are against it given that there is no online presence for the company
