Recognition usually doesn’t happen organically, so sometimes you have to create it. Keeping a running list of what you handle and sharing it during reviews can make a huge difference.
As someone who has been both a paralegal and an attorney, I get that it sometimes feels that you are invisible but hopefully you are compensated in a way that demonstrates your importance. Attorneys do get credit for their cases - we’re also the ones shouldering all of the accountability. If something goes wrong, we can get sanctioned or even lose our license.
Are you looking for a pat on the back for doing your job well? Or are you looking for more money?
It sounds like your value is already recognized accordingly.
I'm not sure what you think you're gaining by anonymously punching down on the Internet. It's not funny and it's rotting you from the inside out.
Do you want more money or more praise?
If praise, then are you seeking more personal validation (i.e. an attorney coming back from court and saying "we couldn't have done it without you") or more public affirmation (i.e. the firm regularly sending emails recognizing the value of their assistants, or appreciation breakfasts or gifts on administrative professional's day)?
Your feelings are valid. Do you have an awards/recognition program at your firm? If not, perhaps you could advocate for one that is role-agnostic and focuses on specific categories of valued contributions.
And they don't even say please and thank you.
