Sometimes I feel really frustrated seeing how things work. There are people who work for years, putting in effort, time, and integrity to reach a certain level, while others seem to get there by bending the truth. I know someone who lied about their work experience, salary, everything, and still got into a Big Four job. It makes me wonder—don’t companies do background checks anymore?

I feel exhausted, truly exhausted, by wanting something serious and simple yet only attracting casual and complicated. I get that dating is a chore and this city is notoriously fast, but I'm just just at a loss.

Investment advice for a junior associate (with minimal research or effort). Young with minimal expenses, so open to any and all suggestions.

Got staffed on an investigations matter and was asked to draft the letter. I added everything the senior associate said to and I still got a rewrite. I’m a mid level at a new firm, so I feel particularly awful about this. Feels like I’ll never be a good lawyer.

Any thoughts around how to use M&A tax skills for the better good? I’m a CPA and originally got into this for a stable / interesting job, but in the long-term I’d like to do something that either influences drafting of tax legislation or helps the public (however naive that may sound). Perhaps I’ve gotten too introspective during the pandemic. Don’t really want to go back for a JD and aside from keeping a roof over my head I’m not very motivated by money.
