AI drinks up power like an alcoholic gets drunk on a Friday night. How is this not concerning these people??

"How is this not concerning these people??" Because they won't suffer the long-term consequences from it, future generations will. That's why it's so hard to get people to care about climate change. Pictures of starving polar bears might make them sad, but until it starts affecting them personally, way too many just can't be bothered to care.

Expecting people in the tech industry to care about anything beyond the quarterly reports they make to Wall Street is really asking a lot. The AI industry, such as it is, has shown a shocking disregard for things like copyright and ethics, so thinking they would care about environmental concerns isn't too realistic. Probably a good idea to stay skeptical.
