^ first time I’ve heard that provisions are easy to pick up lol I consider provisions the hardest aspect in tax
Pwc 1, BDO probably doesn’t get hard provisions.
He was actually doing a estimate calc and thought it was a provision
To the topic - best way to learn asc740 is by going to big4 where they do provisions..
@STA1, you’re probably right.
Most of the provisions we get don’t even have international pieces to it so I’d imagine other firms our size are similar
Talk to your CA and express your interest in working on tax provisions. It's fairly easy to pick up, depending on the complexity of the provision.
So many arrogant assholes on FB today... must make you feel really superior to insult an entire firm you know nothing about... 🖕
Lol SM, you mad? I’m sorry but it’s just the reality in most markets. Sometimes smaller firms simply don’t have the resources and the expertise to handle what’s needed. Why would you get mad at facts? People at big 4 on the other hand don’t get to work on a broad range of stuff and tend to be very specialized, which is bad as well.
No I’m not mad, just disappointed in human behavior too often.... I hope the view from up there is awesome 👏
Either ask for provision audits or provision preparation (some of our audit clients use smaller firms for the prep). If you can’t they that, then at the very least look through the PwC or E&Y ADIT guide. If you can understand M-1s, you can do a basic domestic provision, the rest you can at least get a basic understanding from the guides
Honestly I think u learn more about the basics from midsize or smaller as you will do preparations. Most big4 provision work is review. I know because I switched firms to learn provisions better and all I’m doing is reviewing them lol
With that said, your exit opportunity is way better for that position from big4
At my level as experienced manager it would be difficult to go into a big 4 with little experience in provisions and ASC740. Just feel like it’s time to start thinking about an exit plan as partner seems less desirable
Nope, don’t be afraid. I’m sure someone will want you and plus it will be a perfect reason to leave - to get more provision experience. If you’ve made it that far it means you’re somewhat intelligent and can pick up new stuff if needed.
I left midsize as new manager. Just drop to senior if u have to or new manager and u should be able to find something. Especially in this new environment where so many changes are happening to provisions
