Everyone talks about exiting from consulting to an SE role. If I do that, in 5 years when I'm ready to move on to something new, where are people exiting to from SE roles?

Potential TikTok offer - negotiating equity

Into the last round of TikTok for non-tech ops role in EU. Yes I know the general narrative of warning of working for TikTok!

The recruiter told me that if successful, the offer may or may not include equity depending on what level of role they offer me. think 2-1 does not include equity, but 2-2 does. Any advice to prepare for this conversation? Especially if I am offered a 2-1 role with no equity as part of the initial offer.

In a social chat the other day, a person in our group expressed strongly that people should be hired regardless of their legal status to work in any country, as long as they were in willing to work, and stated they were qualified for the job.

For context, everyone in that social outing was a migrant to the country, and the person expressing their view was from Mexico and while a minor crossed the US border illegally but left shortly before they were considered an adult.

Am I crazy for strongly considering doing this? My Mom decided to sell her house and move down here near me in a tier 2 city in terms of cost. Housing options for just herself with her medical conditions just don't see very great. I accepted a $115K base salary, 13% bonus, 10k sign on bonus (scientist supervisor) job and two weeks later, got a $135K base, 17% bonus, and 15K sign on bonus (Senior scientist role) offer from another company. Should I accept the new offer ? How do I tell the previous company about this? Also, I’ve already negotiated with the first company and the $115K base is the negotiated salary.
