Did EY Canada promote everyone a year early or something? I saw a couple of promotions on my LinkedIn that were 🤔 and then saw EY’s official post that they had the largest number of promotions ever. I’m thinking this was a product of having to give large wage hikes like all B4, i.e. if you get a 15-20% bump then we need to bump your position to maintain our ranges long-term, and/or we are going to make you earn your new $ even if you may not be ready for the new title.

I’ve never worked at a midsize firm, but from what I understand there’s a huge price point difference. Essentially B4 do much more detailed, complex analysis (more pro forma adjustments and more story telling as opposed to definitional addbacks). We also have more internal resources and we have data tools and access to expensive datasets and that kind of thing. I would say B4 projects are also more likely to bring in other teams (ITDD, tax DD, etc.) to have really large projects. So basically I would say the main difference is the client (how much they want out of their DD teams). I think B4 clients typically have higher expectations (expecting more quality and creativity) and are more collaborative. That being said, not all B4 are equal in this space. There can be large differences firm to firm.
