Tips on making the moving process more smooth/less stressful? The last time I had to move I legit cried bc of the stress and that was with paying $1800 for movers.

Get rid of as much stuff as possible before you move, and allow twice as much time to pack as you think you need. Alternatively, pay the movers an insane amount of money to pack up all your stuff - I know someone who did that and I would do the same if I could afford to.

VP1, the cost depends on who you hire and how much stuff you have. The person I know didn’t separate the packing quote from the moving quote, but I’m guessing the packing added at least 2K (packing a 2-bedroom house).

2 weeks in advance: pack up things you won’t miss for that time, like 90% of your clothes, books, decor. Get rid of everything you don’t need!! Drop off clothes at a Beacons closet for $ or donate them. Sell furniture in craigslist if you don’t think you’ll want it.

1 week in advance: pack up your kitchen, appliances, dishes and all. Get prepared meals from Trader Joe’s or treat yourself to takeout.

A couple days before: plan out your clothes you’ll need until move day and pack everything else.

If you have the cash, pay for packers. It does really make it easier.

I moved last November and I got hyper organized with it.
Made a spreadsheet, numbered my boxes, and wrote down exactly what was in each box in the spread. This helped as a couple of times I needed something I packed and could grab it fast.

I also color coded the boxes (red for kitchen, blue for bedroom, etc) with sharpies so when movers were moving in, they knew where to take things.

It took some effort but I also had a better grasp on where things were. Also helped with packing because I was able to pack some things earlier, since knew where stuff was if I needed it.

Sounds like a bargain.

Which moving company did you use? Thanks!

I used Oz and they were great, but I didn’t have them pack everything. I know someone who used Joseph Barton and had them pack everything, and really liked them.

Insane. I paid $300 + tips for my last move, 1 bed 1 bath’s worth of stuff

Just plan out in advance: spend x hours per weekend packing your stuff etc

Portfolio M - who did you use? What location?

There are companies that come to your place and pack your stuff for you. What you can't see won't stress you out!

Start packing two weeks in advance

Why is education deemed more valuable on a pay scale than experience? Employers will pay someone with a degree and no experience a greater salary, than someone who has exhibited the experience. Understanding that the degreed person committed to school and finished, yet that doesn't diminish what the not degreed has committed to and accomplished in their careers. This has to stop!

Am I crazy? Currently interviewing at LEK, Oliver Wyman, and Deloitte strat for (essentially) entry level positions after working in biz dev at Microsoft for under a year. I’d basically be trading my WLB for away for the same salary I make here, but I feel like I’ll learn way more in consulting and be a more well rounded person. My friends say I’m crazy, need a reality check…

I'm at a career juncture and have decided on a career in anti-money laundering as my new path. I'm also highly interested in additional education to further my career and am eyeing graduate school. I keep reading that JDs are valued in compliance but am wondering if a different graduate program is better for my goals. I already plan to obtain the CAMS certification. Thank you!
