I think if you have a proven track record tbh that’d me more valuable to me.
Go for it! I have a side hustle as a career coach after spending 25 “successful” but mostly unfulfilling years in tech. I specialise in helping experienced professionals transition to purpose-driven roles. It’s a work in progress but might give you some ideas : https://lifelabhq.org
Thank you so much!
I love this path you are considering! I’m a corporate career + leadership coach and don’t believe you need experience to start coaching on the side. Some people really have a knack for it and everyone starts from zero. Go for it! My bias opinion is to look into a course or potential coaches who can help you along the way. Congratulations and I can’t wait to see more from you here in this space! 🫶🏼
This comment is so uplifting, thank you!
To me, that DOES sound like a background, to an extent, in coaching...
Thank you!

Start thinking about who you want to serve and in what ways you will do so. Why would they work with you vs any of the many other coaches and recruiters who also offer similar services. Helping friends is different than signing paying clients. You’re going to need to offer more than career advice. You’ll need to show how your efforts helped your client achieve their goal.
That said, you won’t get a feel for where you’ll land in the career coaching space until you start. Educate yourself on the different areas, try what interests you, and decide from there. I’m personally in favor of getting certified, but I know that’s a personal decision and may not be necessary based on the niche you choose. All the best.
What is the background/type that invest in that type of service?
I wouldn't use it, so I'm curious if you know the target audience
As a full time coach for nearly 2 decades I can tell you the coaches do not give advice. In coaching, we guide the client into making their own decisions. Our opinion only applies to our own lives not to others. If you would like to talk about what it takes to become a career coach or transformational I'd be happy to talk with you about it please reach out. karen@tabularasacoaching.com
I am a career coach, so I’m biased but I’d say there are specific reasons why you trust your friend. An ICF certified coach doesn’t simply give advice. If they specialize in careers then they might help with resumes and interview prep, salary negotiation (as I do in my practice). However, they won’t help you really get over mental blocks or other obstacles you might not even have a deeper level of awareness of (yet). But even if you don’t become certified and want to give advice, there’s definitely clients that are looking for just that.
