Definitely long distance. Your dating pool would shrink big time.
Take a look at the post from the person living in Hoboken with a similar question to see what I mean
NP - in short they got really mad and argued basically that it was unfair and stupid that NYC-ers wouldn’t date someone in NJ, while all the NYC-ers basically just said “this is reality - I’m unlikely enough to date someone in brooklyn, let alone NJ”

What PEA1 said. If I’m not going to Hoboken I’m sure as hell never going to Long Island (unless it the summer and I’m going to the Hamptons)
I would rather do long distance with Chicago than long distance with LI tbh. I would be annoyed every time I had to go to LI whereas at least Chicago is more of a destination, and I would be willing to go to either at the same frequency in terms of travel time/hassle

This is like beyond logic it’s an hour away and I have a car lol
Hoboken is also easier to get to from Manhattan than pretty much anywhere on Long Island, so it’s even worse
You have to understand, people in nyc are used to convenience and having everything with the press of a button or a short walk. So the romantic “I would travel anywhere to see my love” doesn’t fly here. In other cities, I’m sure people would drive up to an hour for someone. But public transportation is much more demanding and stressful than driving.
I would swipe left if you came up and I saw you lived in Long Island or I would be frustrated if you had NYC on your profile and then told me Long Island. I also wouldn’t want to date someone from Long Island or spend a lot of our time dating in Long Island because that is not where I want to end up. Personally it’s not a place I would want to live and/or eventually start a family should it come to that. It’s definitely a tough spot to be in, but maybe highlight on your profile your intentions and I know there are people out there who live in the city/love it but have plans to wind up on the island at some point.

Lol okay. I inherited a house on LI but def don’t want to limit my options. I guess I will be renting it out and living in NYC until I find a SO. I bet I end up meeting a guy from LI.

Well my friends are telling me there’s a ton of guys there so you probably have a better chance of meeting one than the rest of us in Manhattan! 😂

That’s long distance
I wouldn’t even consider Brooklyn... definitely not long island
It’s fine as long as you keep coming to the city for the dates. Don’t expect anyone to go out to Long Island unless it’s for beaches. Speaking from experience...SO and I met through online dating. Happily together and married for over 7 years.

Long Island to NYC? 🙄
Met my now husband while I lived in Chicago... did long distance for a year between the two cities. Pre COVID, def doable
