Yes. Super cheap to get and very worth it. I use lemonade insurance
I pay 15 bucks per month. In one instance, a friend had a faulty alarm clock and it only affected his apartment. It was 8 years ago and his life is still not back to normal.

Yes. Get lemonade - super cheap and totally worth it. I’ve had friends who couldn’t be in their apt because another unit caught fire. So many things out of your control can happen it’s so worth it.
Fwiw lemonade just quoted me $8/mo more than State Farm
Full-service doorman building. Please don’t be an idiot. Get insurance
100k personal liability 20k property for $125 per year through State Farm. EzPz
If you have car insurance, they’ll package it up. I pay $8/month. Completely worth it
Yes, I have it because it’s required for us. But also just good to have for peace of mind, it also covers damage you may cause to other properties. (I.e. my bf and I accidentally caused some damage at an Airbnb, and insurance covered everything—I didn’t know about this until it happened 🙃)
It’s part of our coverage that they’ll cover damage at another property—you’re not applying for insurance at another apartment. We booked the Airbnb under our name so we were covered
Get it. I lost an iPhone in an Uber and insurance covered it. I use lemonade.

How much was the deductible ?
Not required, still have it!

thanks everyone ! For those that have it, do you live in amenity doorman buildings? Feel like the risk of theft or hazardous damage is much lower in doorman building than a walk up.

It was a condo building, so the landlord was the individual owner. The owner did give a break when asked, but only proportional rent. I don’t know if that would be required by law, but either way, it wouldn’t cover staying in a hotel. Luckily my SO could stay with me. Hotels in NY are way more expensive per night than apartment rent.
I have State Farm. I pay $11/mo. Definitely worth it, I’ve lived in doorman and walk up buildings. I worry about pipes bursting or pest infestations.
FWIW Lemonade quoted me $19/mo for the same thing.

For those that have it, how much personal property coverage did you opt for? Wonder if 20k is enough for most people.
I do the lowest one available

That’s a HUGE red flag that there have been thefts or burglary there

All they said was the renters Insurance is highly recommended because in large buildings like ours with many apartments something could go wrong in or around your apartment. Example was a washer and dryer leaking from unit above.
Nothing about thefts or burglary.
