Sending love to you and others that are currently experiencing this as I am experiencing the same. Laid off in January and searching for my next opportunity has been tedious. Taking the time to complete a cover letter, tailor my resume to only not receive an corresondence afterwards or immediately upon sending the application receiveing an email stating you are not being considered for the position. One piece of advice is dont see it as depressing. I can sympathize with the age as I am a year younger. Use this time to reflect and seek your true purpose in this life. If you have to move back in with your parents, look at is as your are blessed to have parents that you are able to return to. Just look at it as a redirection to something that is waiting for you. Yes, it may be hard to look at the brighter side of things while going through this transition but through it all show some gratitude to what you do have versus what you do not. Gratitude for any and everything no matter how small. Trust you will get through this and it will be better than you could ever imagine. Just believe in yourself and trust the process.
No idea as I wouldn't consider what I'm doing living currently. "Surviving" is more accurate. Just barely at that.
I’m so sorry you are going through this. I am about to hit one month of unemployment after being laid off. It is incredibly discouraging and the job market in 2026 is brutal. Do not give up!
I looked for a little over 2 years. This job market is insane.
I was unemployed 9 months before landing another job. Drained entire savings and felt worthless. But it only takes one yes to change everything. Now I love my job and so much happier prior to the layoff
I've decided to change careers altogether. I'm studying for the CAPM exam.
I worked as a substitute teacher, while I was unemployed for 2 months. It was decent money, and I worked with students on the spectrum at a middle school. i honestly enjoyed it. school started at 7, I was done by 3:30, and did interviews after that.

I have felt that exhaustion before. I would take a short reset if possible, then come back with a focused plan rather than pushing endlessly.

Oh no I’m really sorry you’re going through this, that’s not nice, it’s a hard world out there but don’t give up hope!
It has been 5 months since I was laid off. The job market is really tough and competitive. Fortunately for me I am a big saver where I always have a rainy day account. I was able to take a little mini vacation to reset and regroup before diving back into my job search.
I know the situation is not ideal. But I don’t think you should look down on yourself. You’re likely not doing anything wrong. It’s just the job market is tough for everybody. You also might be dealing with a little bit of age discrimination.
Its a tough market right now. Keep your head up
Hi from my Mom's basement. I'm 35. "Why is no one having kids anymore?" they ask. Hmm, a real mystery.
