New grad students have started asking about my experience in the program. Should I be honest and tell them how horrible it was? Or avoid the question and let them form their own opinion?

How horrible we talking here? Do you regret it? If they're going to need some pointers to make it through the program you should give them some

I mean, you don't want to lie to them right? Be honest and tell them what to expect, if they go in and the program is horrible as you say then at least they could brace for it

I suppose it depends on how horrible the program is. What was so unpleasant about it? You stuck with it so clearly there was something appealing about it.

Just share your experience, but try to keep it tempered. There's a big difference between how we personally perceive things to be and what they're like to other people. Maybe the gripes you had with the program won't really matter to these students

I wouldn't want to lie and have them thinking they are struggling because of something they did. I'd be fully honest but remind them that it doesn't mean their experience will be the same.

Does where you get your masters degree matter?
