Transitioning from a hands-on AM role to a purely client-facing position has been a huge adjustment. I used to be directly involved in deliverables but now everything goes through other teams, and I’m just managing expectations. It’s frustrating when a client asks for changes, and all I can do is pass the request along instead of handling it myself. I miss feeling in control of the output and having a more tangible impact. For those in similar roles, how do you stay engaged when your job is mostly about relationships rather than execution?

The relationship building then becomes your focus and you shift gears to be an indispensable business partner vs executer of deliverables. It will be more fun if you focus on being the best damn problem solver and reliable source of intel that then is the quarter back and coach for your client and teams.

I focus on building the relationship rather than the execution. If I was this client, what would I want to hear and how would I like to be treated? I ask myself that often.

Focus on the relationship. Listen before you speak. Be thoughtful in your strategy and make them feel like they matter.

How to politely tell my partner stop spending too much time on playing video games? It was my false at first. I introduced Zelda breathe of the wild to her and now, she is hooked. Hello,

I am a 3rd year insurance defense attorney with product and premise liability experience. Due to long-COVID, I am likely to lose my job.

The plan is to find a government position that would involve more substantive litigation and trial work, then leverage that into the private sector a few years down the line.

Any advice would be appreciated regarding networking, where to start, etc. Thank you.

Hey fishies! Been a GVP consultant for 3.5 years now, hard work, tough “in trouble” clients, and just haven’t had the chance to work with a team long term! Been in the industry a while, current Head of DSPV and looking to jump back into FT work. Non-MD so it’s hard to find companies that will hire me even though I teach in grad school and headed for my PhD. Any thoughts? Openings?

No one wants to be “that account guy”. What’s that phrase mean to you? How do you avoid that label?

I work for a small agency and manage our internal marketing acct. We had very few processes in place when I started. I’ve since created, implemented, and trained our dept. on project mgmt for clients and am trying to convince the owner to apply those principles to our internal jobs. They are resistant because they just want the work to be done and don’t “want to keep spending money on internal jobs”. I’m confused because we’re doing the work either way and “spending” in labor/resources.
