Stop by Trader Joe’s to pick up snacks that you can’t get in Canada!
Rising Star
Ferry to Sausalito for lunch. Drive up to Muir Woods for a hike. Spend a day/night in Napa/Sonoma for wine tasting. Land’s End hike in the city is short and easy. Ramen in Japan town. Tartine Bakery then hang out in Dolores Park. Get a burrito in the mission at La Taqueria.
Nobody mentioned Mexican food. SF’s burritos are famous.
Came here to say this, not just burritos though. the Mexican food in Toronto simply cannot compare!

If you've never been, there's absolutely nothing wrong with doing the touristy stuff. It's popular for a reason. Hit up pier 39, see the seals, drive down Lombard, check out the Presidio, etc. Just don't leave anything in your rental car (if you have one). Rental cars get targeted around here and all of your stuff will be gone. Broad daylight, only gone for 5 minutes, doesn't matter. It happens every single day.
Transit is okay, some buses are better traveled than others.
It’s kind of hard to ignore crazy people in SF, and sometimes you’ll end up in straight up confrontations. I’ve been assaulted (hit in the face, pulled my hair) by a woman who thought I took the grocery bag she was holding because mine looked the same. I’ve been evacuated from Muni buses because someone announced that they had a knife and they would use it. And that was before covid. Fewer eyes on the street mean that things have gotten much, much worse. I moved away this spring, and I’d recommend
Keep your wits about you on transit (no headphones, maybe no phone), try not to take empty buses or buses that go through the tenderloin or near the hospitals. Try to not to stand in anyone’s way.
I’ve lived in both Toronto and SF and have to say, Toronto is like a fairy tale utopia in comparison
You are coming during the best weather season! Golden Gate park is beautiful. Go to the De Young inside the park and the Japanese tea gardens.
Tourist stuff is also very fun. See the sights. Pier 39 and the surrounding area. Have an Irish coffee at the Buena Vista. There’s a cool old school (like 1903 old school) arcade called the Museo Mechanique down there too.
Chinatown and North Beach (Little Italy) are a hop away from there and right next to each other. Grab a slice at Tony’s and some dim sum in ChinaTown. Have a drink at the Lipo lounge in Chinatown.
And the Ferry Building is also fun. Lots of food stalls and speciality items like truffle mushrooms, etc.
Have fun!

Failed liberal experiment
Filoli is amazing. Located in Woodside on Canada road near Half Moon Bay.
Alcatraz Tour > Pier 39 imo.
If you get bikes to Sausalito, recommend Joinery or Bocce restaurants, not the touristy ones in the heart of town.
Also, cocktails at Vesuvio
