UPDATE: My supervisor found out how to get out of the event that we have coming up next Saturday b/c she said she has plans for her son's birthday that weekend. She said she can bring any items she needs to bring on Fri or thursday of next week." It never stops with her!! So my supervisor has been off all week due to a "family emergency" & 1 of the clients whom she is assigned to called me complaining about how she received a letter in the mail indicating that her rent had not been paid (CONTD)

(CONTD) She got frustrated when I told her my supervisor was out of the office and that her situation would need to be escalated to our Director. I emailed my Director about this and she said “can you check on this and please call the leasing office? This is the check you emailed about where it may have had the wrong resident’s name on the check.” I was surprised and baffled that she asked me to do this when SHE is the one who sends all of the checks in the mail to our clients!! I was even more aggravated because this is something that my Supervisor should have been taking care of but OF COURSE, she was nowhere to be found!!

I feel very OVERWHELMED, OVERWORKED, and UNDERPAID!!! I thought that this was going to be less stressful job that is remote with a work/life balance–but instead, it is the OPPOSITE!! My supervisor has an excuse as to why she constantly cannot attend events and this is a pattern that I have noticed with her for the past 6 and a half months I have been working at this job!!!

We were actually sponsoring the last event my job held. I thought that my supervisor was going to be attending the event and assisting with Checking people in and working at the table that my Director had setup. WRONG. I already was not feeling that great when she texted me & said "im just checking to see if you will be there to help the Director tonight. I completely forgot i took PTO to be w/my family that came in on Friday. They leave tonight. The Director said she will be okay as long as you are there." Um wtf?! I just feel like she is just taking advantage of me at this point. She made it sound as though she was going to be at the event a few days ago & NEVER mentioned anything about taking PTO & having family in town. I told her I wasnt feeling well & that I may need tl leave early because im not feeling that well. Its ONLY 3 OF US ALTOGETHER. We dont have any other staff members to help. This is not the first time my supervisor has pulled this crap either. If she does not feel like going to an event, then she will say "are you gonna go to the event?" In front of my Director or tell me "I think this will be a great event for you to go to" just so she won't have to go.

I know I was told that there would be events to go to when I first started my job, but this is starting to be extreme now. Yesterday, my Director asked, “are either of you able to help out? I plan on being there.” There was no response from my supervisor because she is out of the state right now (I had no idea she was going to be out of the state for the next few days because she never told me!) The funny thing is I looked on the calendar for next week and my Supervisor ALREADY has an out of state event planned with her family on the EXACT SAME DAY we are supposed to have our event next Saturday!! (I doubt if that is a COINCIDENCE).

Ppl like my mom will say “You should be bothered by this because that is her business if she is out of the office and it should not affect you”--WRONG!! It actually does because anything that she is not available to do (ESPECIALLY REGARDING HER CLIENTS) falls back on me just like it did today!! Also, we have NO STAFF so I feel very pressured to attend all of these events, meetings, and conferences especially if my supervisor does not respond to an email the director sent out about it or does not "feel" like going. I'm so tired of working in toxic ass work environments and being constantly lied to on these crappy jobs. My supervisor me I would be "the gatekeeper" in the beginning and that she would be in the "field." This is supposed to be a REMOTE job. Sounds like a bunch of lies and bs to me. How would you handle this? Because at this point everything is just out of control and I feel like I am being used and abused.

My mom suggested for me to send an email to my supervisor that says “I am forwarding the work or issues I have to you because I am not familiar with this line of work. I am beginning to feel overwhelmed with questions and issues I do not have knowledge of.” PLEASE HELP!!!! I NEED SOME HELPFUL FEEDBACK AND ADVICE—Hold off on the snarky, nasty comments for once!!

Home office preference question. I am getting ready to redo the layout of my home office. One option I'm considering would have my desk facing a wall. I am wondering if anyone with this current setup has any feedback about it. I would face the wall so that I would have a better background for video conferences (am on about half the day) and also my cord situation would be cleaner.

Additional Posts in Work Red Flags

The hiring manager spent so much time complaining about the previous person who was in the position instead of highlighting what would make me successful in the role

We expect flexibility with regard to schedules from our employees. In addition to your regular weekday hours, the need may arise for you to work evenings and occasionally on weekends. So, always be prepared to accommodate staffing demands.

The hiring manager didn't want to move forward with a candidate because of his gut feeling. The candidate had the experience and skills necessary but couldn't put his finger on why he didn't want move forward.

The only answer he could was that she asked if pay could be changed and asked about benefits.

I smell bias all the way

Interviewer is being recruited for high level remote position, but when joining a panel interview, the candidate does not cut on the camera. Big red flag as scamming for jobs since remote culture grew is becoming a big trend

During interview I was speaking to the hiring manager. Felt interview was going well. He seemed impressed by my answers, excited by my skills, and even gave me a tour of the office. At the end, he asked about my home life. When I spoke of my 3 young kiddos, the manager got a little taken back and replied Oh you have children? I said yes ages 3, 5, and 7. He then proceeded to ask me about daycare arrangements and if I can be reliable. Red flag as his demeanor changed and made me feel unworthy.

During the pandemic I lost my job and was desperate. I found a 5 month tax law internship to full hire and applied.
Description: “$20/hr to JDs, $15/hr to JD students”.
This was our convo.
Me: …I graduated from law school a few months ago…
Interviewer: so I’ll be paying you $15/hr if you’re hired… I’ll let you know in a week
Me (in no position to negotiate): umm… okay
*3 months later*
Interviewer: You’re hired! However it will now be an unpaid internship, are you still interested?
Me: *ghosts*

As a recruiter consultant, I have cringed at the descriptions that hiring managers share as the ideal candidate. Many have expressed wanting candidates who are between ages 25-35 🤦🏾. Like what....?!

When you tell your manager you are unhappy and they are excited that you are putting your notice and don't try and make any changes b/c the new person/persons they are lining up will just cleanup and make it better.

Then, they get here and you are left to train them on everything you do and your manager keeps saying "I owe you an apology" because they didn't realize how taxing and mind wrecking most processes you handled were... welcome to corporate

A company didn’t follow through with a scheduled intro phone call. I emailed during the time scheduled to see if something had come up & after as well to reschedule. No one answered me or followed up. I can’t help but feel like this is a little red flag. If you can’t follow though on an intro call… what’s your HR & the rest of the company doing? 😬
