W2 vs 1099 - any CA freelancers getting any 1099 work? We had a debate the other night about how the “contract / Uber” bill from a few years caused all freelance to go W2. My political savvy friends said that’s not the case.

I am. Generally between 75-100% through my business over the past 4 years. Setup as a s-corp with all the business insurance needed and willing to go through vendor onboarding processes. Depends on the client… Some holding cos or big in house brands have their processes and are unwilling to bend, will only work W2 and completely shut down any w9 discussion. I have found Indy agencies or direct to midsize brands generally have far better flexibility. Also work with a fair amount of out of state clients and a few international. It’s also important to act like a business in how you interact with clients, ie, write proposals or estimates, have your own processes, marketing yourself as a business, etc.

Hi Guys,
Need your advice. I have forgot to enter challan details while filing tax and then e-verified then it return with pay later option, though i had paid the income tax first first hand via pay now option.

Will i get outstanding demand plus need to pay penalty for late payment in this case?
Also when will i receive the outstanding payment notice if it happens?

If you could change anything to increase minority representation in marketing, what would you change? I think I'd want at least 2-3 minority employees in creative leadership positions to make sure things like colorism in ads less likely to pass the final edit.
