I’ve only been through one acquisition (different industry than you) but it was a terrible experience. The company that purchased us spoke to how valuable our business was, and how they were looking forward to expanding their portfolio with our business. They promised they had no intentions to change company policies, benefits, reduce staff, etc.
Within a year of the purchase, benefits were reduced, we entered a 100% RTO, people were laid off, and the company’s rating on Glassdoor had dropped from 75% to 35%. Company culture was destroyed. The highest performers left in masses. A lot of positions aren’t being replaced, causing more work for less people.
Not every acquisition ends like this, but I would recommend you start preparing for your exit just in case.
Are you sure you can divulge this info online?
OP doesn’t list her organization, so I don’t think there is any issue with her divulging this information.
Also it’s possible the purchase has already been announced and is just going through final stages. When our company was purchased it was publicly announced about 9 months before it was completed.
M&A is rough. I just went through a divestment, which led to a merger. Unfortunately, my role was redundant and I was laid off.
I had one day between leaving that job and starting a new one. I’m happier. I make more money and have a much healthier work-life balance. It was the end of a chapter, but that’s all it was.
You can’t change what may happen…you really can’t. Most of these decisions are mapped out in the due-diligence process well beforehand.
Just know you’ll be ok, no matter what the outcome.
🙌
Thank you. It has been very rough. I'm seeing a lot of dark stuff and I'm not sure if to leave or wait until it settles. It's very stressful 😫
Had a positive experience. Benefits actually got better- they didn’t lay off but used the work force to fill in open recs in the company and during the several year transition to integrate. Thought it was a good experience. I’d stay, at least for the severance package and keep an eye out if you’re unhappy with the transition.
Thank you 😊
M/A are not all bad, but it is very disheartening when the company you loved working for no longer exists.
Mourn the loss and try to integrate if you choose to stay. Believe nothing they say and look at actions only. Use those actions to read the tea leaves. That’ll help you forecast what’s coming.
Most importantly practice self care. Feel all your feelings and remind yourself they are valid. Prepare yourself for what’s next and take it one day at a time.
In the beginning most everyone will be safe. After the honeymoon period is over Cummins will start to thin out jobs that are redundant in the organization. Many times it could be people from the new company being let go or long term Cummins employees that are released. It all depends on the skill set. As in most large companies, we are all just a number, and when our number comes up we move on.
