It has never been easy to retain in my 34 years. I’ve learned that some kids will take advantage of that second year, but most will waste another year.
We never retain kids here. Unless a parent has an advocate and they fight hard for it.
Wow... this is backwards. We are usually pushing for retention and the parents are the ones who fight it.
Since I have been at my school (10 years), we have not had any students retained.
I am sorry what??? I would say our average for 120 per grade level is 4 retentions. We cannot in good conscience send a student on who has failed 2 or more core subjects for 2 or more quarters. They are not prepared for the next years curriculum. The only exceptions are friends who have a diagnosis OR are in the process of evaluation for a diagnosis.
We haven't really seen this shift yet in my district but I am sure that it is bound to happen. With the rising costs of everything we see alot of kids leaving because parents are taking jobs elsehwere to make more money.
