We've been doing some AI trainings during the slow season and it has got me feeling very replaceable lately. I feel like AI is going to do my job just fine with making spreadsheets and underwriting loans and forecasting, etc. Is our industry cooked? How do I become irreplaceable? Or will it even matter?

AI is already replacing jobs in a few industries. With how much is being invested in AI to speed up its development, I think our industry will be hit hard in the next few years. Be the best you can at what you do, and stay on top of AI so that you can be one of the employees left to manage AI systems, rather than be the one replaced.

Great Depression V2, I guess. What desperately needs to happen is that increased wealth gained through AI needs to be so heavily taxed that it will cover a universal basic income. Will that happen? Of course not. We are heading towards a very bad time.

I like to view AI as a new tool we just need to learn to adapt and use it to expand our roles. As long as you’re learning how to use it, I’m not sure it will ever truly replace human work. At the end of the day, there’s a level of discernment we humans have that I’m not sure computers will ever get to.

I hope you're right. Computers truly can't think... yet.

I think AI could certainly reduce the headcount of certain fields, but there will always be the need for a decision maker and for someone to take the blame. If something goes wrong, it’s difficult to blame AI unless you’re able to explain every nitty gritty detail about why a decision was made.

Great, great point. Thanks for your insight.

Completely agree, it’s a big concern that AI will displace a lot of people. In a market that is already cutthroat and competitive, it’s a scary thought.

Nah you are good

Does anyone know the salary of a beginner para planner at Ameriprise or any other broker-dealer?

Need career advice. Trying to break into a finance role, preferably an Analsyt role but I have no transferable experience. I worked as a mortgage loan officer (which is sales) for 2 years after college, but since mortgage is such a niche industry, no hard skills transfer and have no relevant undergrad internships unfortunately. I know I can essentially get any sales job I want in finance IE: financial advisor etc. but don’t want to be stuck in sales forever. Any advice?
