I started getting hyperfixated on hobbies that save us money. Baking, canning, gardening. Now instead of buying a can of tomato sauce, I spend $400 on seeds, soil, canning supplies only to carefully craft the worst tomato sauce you've ever tasted lol

funny

lol. Freshly grown tomatoes?

Lived in Europe - salaries aren’t the same, and taxes, but between lower cost of living, absence of credit cards, and being able to go to the emergency room without risking bankruptcy, it’s pretty great.

funny

I would like to go work in Europe for sure

I cook the large majority of my meals myself, which is a huge money saver. I keep my overall cost of living pretty low by not having a car and living in a fairly small one bedroom apartment.

uplifting

Ah I wish I didn’t need a car but it would be really challenging for me

Got married. Rent plummeted immediately - we were way more inclined to stay home and hang out, family cell phone plan saved a bunch, cooking for two is way more economical and fun. Highly recommend - best if you get to marry someone who is genuinely your best friend and you want to be around them.

Two caveats:

1. If it’s not your best friend and you end up with two separate lives and then divorce - that seems pricey.
2. Kids. If you decide to have them, they can rip through your savings.

Great advice and I’m hoping I can get married one day but still searching for someone. Want to avoid the divorce part for sure!

Learning to cook well and efficiently is a huge money saver. Getting married is also great for tax exemptions. Getting a remote role if you can, so you can eat at home and not pay for gas is great. Quitting drinking or drinking very sparingly will save you tons of money.

All really good tips!

Looks like cooking at home is something everyone does! What are some of your favourite meals to make?

Won the lottery. Lol jk

I had a very positive experience interviewing with Amazon for an L5 Technical Writer role. I originally applied for a lower level writing role, ending up acing my Loop, and was passed on to speak to the hiring manager for the L5 role.

Given the positive tone of our conversation, I expect to receive an offer this week.

Can somebody tell me what kind of base salary/bonus/RSU ranges I should aim for? I'm transitioning to tech and have 10+ years of professional writing experience. PNW based.

A question from a youngster. Is working at a big big company with slightly low pay better or working at a much smaller company with higher pay better?

In the future, after a few years, let’s say I’m at a small company and want to switch to big big company, will the “small names” hurt my chance to get into the big doors?

I mean big big company is like 10x bigger than the small one if this was a factor. Assume everything else the same, WLB, commute, teams, etc.

What’s an acceptable salary for a entry level customer success manager role in cybersecurity? Coming on with 3 years related experience.

I recently was let go (in lieu of accepting my two weeks) and I should have received my March expense check by the end of April per the employment agreement (submitted the report April 1, let go before mid April). I have emailed HR but haven't heard anything. I've got a feeling someone at the top is putting a hold on it.

How do I get my money from them? It's a few hundred dollars

Sorry if this isn't the right bowl for this question - I've checked a few.

I asked for a raise in April 2022 after three years with my company. Positive feedback since day one. Learned I was making less than peers at other asset managers in NYC with less experience (14 years). Latest conversation was with HR about how they calculate salaries. I’ve been asked to provide examples how my role has changed since I started to justify the increase. Is this normal? Or is this just their way of denying my request?

I recently found out I was “promoted” or giving a higher title, same pay. I was told HR was updating employees titles based on the work they do… Is that even a thing?? My mid yr review is coming, should I just ask for more money?

Hi all, I have about 7 years of professional experience but only one year as a Customer Success Manager. I work on mid market accounts currently. I love my job, but would prefer to support a more robust platform that will allow me to add more value for my customers.

I’d appreciate your thoughts on what compensation you might expect for a CSM transitioning to a new company with one year of experience.

To clarify, I don’t have an offer yet, I’m just looking to make a move.

Thank you!
