What are some deal breakers for you when you're deciding whether or not to apply for a job? For me, I refuse to apply to any job listing that's been open for over four weeks. I feel like this helps me cut back on applying to ghost job listings.

That one. Also, any listing that doesn't include salary information. I'm not wasting my time going through interviews just to get an offer 20% below market averages. Been there, done that.

My deal breaker is that - if a job posting has been live over 4 weeks and there’s no salary listed. Also, if it asks me to attach my resume AND type in my job history, it’s a waste of time

For me it is vague job descriptions. If the role reads like ten jobs in one or is full of buzzwords with no clear responsibilities, I usually skip it. It often signals unclear expectations internally too.

I'm right there with you. It's a big red flag to me if a job has been posted and reposted a bunch of times. Another one is when the job listing was obviously written by ChatGPT. It tells me they don't really know what they are looking for.

Not to be repetitive but that’s a pretty good insight, especially if you’re looking for a role immediately. However, I wouldn’t always opt for this if you’re not immediately seeking a role as companies may run into numerous unqualified applicants.

Random/odd question if anyone knows the answer: if you are a corporation in state A (California), can you operate as a sole proprietorship in State B (Massachusetts), and have your website list the name of your company and both states in which you operate? Asking for civil procedure purposes in Massachusetts and wondering if the State A Corp is an unregistered foreign Corp in State B that I can tattle on. Polling the audience!

Anyone have any friends who successfully pivoted out of advertising? I know a handful of people who are half-trying to, but I can’t think of anyone who has made a clean break, on their own terms, into something that appears to be making them feel more fulfilled than they were in the ad biz. So they continue freelancing in order to make a living, while not gaining much traction elsewhere.

Why is that?
