A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.
Suppose it depends on what you want to do. If ya want to work for a big company, you should specialize in either tax, audit, or acct. If you want to work for a smaller business that either can't afford, or isn't practical, to have several departments, then this seems like a great option. Either way, you should really figure that out as it will limit your options either way
I'm currently working in a small office where staff are trained to do both assurance and tax, I'd say the nice thing about this is you get to see the whole picture (from company's TB, work on their statement, then do their tax return, then do the owners tax return). So it's a pretty well-rounded experience. And you don't hop around engagement as much.
The downside obviously is the unimpressive resume, processes is pretty messy, lacking in adequate training, limited resources (in terms of who you can come to for questions since everyone's so busy). Managers basically do prep work here.
