Network laterally and not vertically. I think people make the mistake of trying to get in with those with higher titles when they should network with people that will have high ranking titles in a couple years.
Be yourself. I know that sounds cliche, but it's true. So many people try to be impressive. You attract the people you're supposed to work with when you're being authentic.
Actually give a sh!! about what people say. Listen, ask real questions, pay attention, and engage genuinely. Don’t just think about what you can get, think about how you can meet their needs.
Truly try to connect to the others that are there. Spend time trying to find some commonalities and ways that you can work with each other in the future. Make sure to meet as many people as you can. Don't just use that time to talk to one or two individuals.
