More just work hard than play hard. Very high hours. Work is mostly commitment papers and follow on work from that. Almost all lender side work.

Actually, 100% agree. They do play hard but that’s very infrequent. Commitment papers also drain the life out of you (think sudden influx of work at 5pm on Fridays with turns needed by Sunday evening). I hated working on them from the specialist side and always felt bad for the LevFin folks.

Work hard party hard (former Milbanker though not in Lev Fin).

I’m handling erroneous IRS collection letters - for example, assess fail-to-file and fail-to-pay penalties based on postal mail delivery dates but not postmarked dates; assessing capital gain taxes on taxpayers whose income is within the threshold subject to 0% capital gain rate. These errors look like systemic failure (wrong formula). Now the Practitioner Priority Line is blew up, and the AICPA May 17 letter says only 2% of IRS calls are answered. What can we do at this point (Continue)

Has anyone tried ketamine therapy and can share their experience?

My local clinic is now offering it and I’m considering it strongly for PTSD as I’ve been through many meds and feel stuck in therapy despite EMDR and Somatic Experience.

Would love to hear from anyone who has tried it.

The Republican party is in huge trouble. They are not winning any new support over the post election insanity. In fact, they are probably losing some (not as much as they should, but disinformation is a thing...). Moderates won’t vote GOP anytime soon especially with Biden in office. So what’s their path in 2024? Trump again? Nope. Another trump-like candidate? Nope, who could turn out uneducated whites more than trump? Establishment? Nope. What’s the path?

So I got invited to do an on-site interview and as part of it, the hiring manager wants me to present some of the chemistry I'm currently working on. The problem is all my work has been government contracted and hasn't been published, so due to confidentiality I can't present any complete schemes or specific structures. Any tips on how to ace this presentation?

How do you know if you’re using a good recruiter? I connected with mine when I replied to a mass email because he’s part of a company that allegedly works closely with the firm/type of firm I want to join. We spoke a couple of times and he seems nice but clearly didn’t even review my resume, which I feel is the most important as the first impression doc..? Is it bad to switch to someone else at his company..?

Ignoring COVID for a second and how it'll impact firm's financial capability to even give bonuses, do firms with billable reqs usually still give bonuses to first years even if they don't make the threshold?

Maybe like 5% of my first year class will make the threshold (and tbh that number would be around the same of COVID never happened. Just curious as to how most NYC big law deal with this.

I’m a 5th year that just lateraled. I’m coming from a centralized staffing system where I never had to worry about getting work. My new firm is more of a hybrid model. The group is slow right now, so I think staffing is happening more organically rather than through the staffing partners. I feel like I should go talk to partners to try to get staffed, but I don’t really know what I’m doing. Any tips/advice? Do I just introduce myself and say hi? Or do I specifically ask for work?
