CIC is typically what brokers get and CPCU is what Underwriters go for - is it worth it? If your company pays for it, sure why not but you aren’t necessarily going to make more money at your current gig by getting it. Perhaps you may have a competitive advantage during the job application process elsewhere though so it can’t hurt.
CPCU yes
I have a CISR, CIC, CRM, CRIS and MLIS. None get me more pay at my current job but CPCU is more for underwriters, if they pay for it get one. I took a CIC class that was taught by a man that had a PHD in insurance. He was, something.
CPCU is also for more for claims as well. I’m currently working on mine so I can go to the commencement conference in HawaiI
Is the conference in Hawaii in 2026?
I have been on the agency side for 21 yrs and my experience is that clients don’t seem to care, therefore when hiring, etc we don’t pay attention to it. I personally have designations because a previous position I had “wanted them” (though they didn’t do anything for it) and I don’t even bother listing them on my signature or biz card anymore 😂 I think it’s noted in my work bio maybe. I hate to downplay it, it’s just my personal experience with it.
Out of our 20 employees, we have 3 that have designations - 2 acct mgrs and a sales person (they just happened to have them already when they came on) and frankly they aren’t any “better” at their job than anyone else- actually one of those is one of my lowest performers.
