I’m personally deciding not to do designations at this time because I’m in my 20’s and still have a glimmer of hope that I’ll find a purpose for my life other than insurance 😅 but that’s just me
I'd say it depends on a lot of factors. I have many designations through the Institutes (CPCU, AIM, ARM, AIC, AIS, API, AINS, AU). I got them for a few reasons. My work pays for the material and testing, and gives a one time bonus upon completion. I also wanted to learn more about insurance and I think theyve helped my knowledge base a ton.
I think it also depends on what your role is (I was in claims and now underwriting), and your goals. And if a designation would help with promotions or anything. Whenever I see jobs posted I do see that designations are preferred, so I think it's helpful for interviews.
a year and a half is nothing for a CPCU designation. that thing takes people years.
