Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

Do research on what the highest realistic salary you can get for your job, try to negotiate to that
Separately, Figure out how much money you need to make to cover your expenses, then only accept a job if it covers your expenses (or figure out how to reduce your expenses)
A company wont pay you more bc you have higher expenses, theyll pay you more if they think you can bring higher value to them
Makes sense. I feel like I’ve cut down a lot but pay never really catches up with the cost of the world.

Your bills don’t matter when you negotiate. Your approach should be based on real market data on the salary range for your specific job, in your industry, in your city. That kind of data can be tough to find, but do the best research you can. There’s pretty much always a salary range for every job. How high or low you fall in that range depends on your level of experience, skills, and education. So, when you negotiate, focus on how much value you will bring to the company to justify the amount you’re looking for.
Thank you. I try to research. But I’m needing to work on being my own advocate.
Maybe there’s no difference to others, however, what you’re describing sounds more like salary needs vs salary negotiations.
Salary needs is what you want but salary negotiations is both what you want and what they want.
It seems you know what you want, so now it’s to figure what they want.
Thanks for putting that into perspective. I have to think about it more.

Use you previous salary as a starting point and shoot for 10-20% more.
20% would be ideal! I hope it’ll be realistic soon. Thanks!
