Personally I have opted not to make this publicly visible as I don’t see it as beneficial in my case. The status settings also allow you to share this with just recruiters which I have opted into .
Curious to see if anyone has found it useful to set this status publicly.

Looks desperate
I’ve never seen a client side recruiter say they think it makes candidates look desperate. The only people I’ve seen saying it does are 1) external recruiters who’d miss out on commission if a candidate is directly sourced by employers 2) by coaches who would miss out on selling services if candidates are directly sourced by employers
I get more inquiries with open to work and open to recruiters both turned off.

Its does not help or hurt… it really is just an overlooked extra
I think the popular opinion is that it makes you seem desperate ( harsh words i know!)
