No raises. We are highly educated but get paid lower than fast food jobs
It’s like this everywhere right now wages aren’t keeping up with cost of living. My husband works in finance for the government and brings home 2k a month. I always thought government jobs were supposed to be the good ones. Luckily we have great health insurance for a low cost you should see what other people are paying for health insurance it’s insane like 1500 a month.
I do think we get treated differently than the men who teach. I have noticed that they are treated more as professionals and we get treated more like babysitters.
Or substitute mothers.
The lack of options for professional growth. The ceiling is made of concrete, not glass.
Being held back in pay, Education, promotion.
I had a principal why patted me on my head and called me young lady. Well, he did it once. Never again.
No way! Oh man. I’m sorry. Would have loved to witness your response!
Men and women get paid the same in the education field. The ‘pay gap’ exists between districts….. not genders.
Also, there are far fewer pathways for promotion at the early childhood and elementary level—which is female-dominated—and this indirectly contributes to more MS and HS level teachers successfully achieving administrative positions. This means men achieve administrative positions at a disproportionate rate on the mere fact that middle schools and high schools tend to have a higher percentage of male teachers than elementary schools. Not always, but this usually translates to more men getting paid higher salaries than women.
In general, we are expected to be the parent to our students. We are to teach them manners, social etiquette, sympathy and empathy, provide motivation to work hard, and understand when they won’t work hard and fix it, and a million other things the actual parent won’t do. We are trusted with all this until the parent discovers something they don’t like; then watch out, the parent will come for you.
