Got very weird vibes from them as well. Have heard about the toxic environment, not surprised based on several strange interactions with them. They kind of come off like they think they’re a way better agency than they actually are
I interviewed with them several months ago and got weird vibes. Went on Glassdoor afterwards to see what people were saying and it was…interesting to say the least. Wasn’t at all upset to hear they “went with other candidates” after all that 😅
It’s a bit toxic. I didn’t really think it was until I interviewed and talked to a few people that used to work there. They all left after about a year or so. It’s mostly the C-suites and owner (the son) that create a weird environment for employees. The recruiter was nice but refused to tell me anything about anything - what the position entailed, the brand (or even what type the brand was), etc.
I knew a few people that were ghosted after interviewing, so at least they didn’t do that with me.
I asked about growth opportunities and was indirectly told that it would take a long time to be able to move up the ladder. Didn’t sound like there were a lot of opportunities with work either. The people I talked to that had worked there said there was a lot of gatekeeping with briefs.
All this to say, it’s tough out there right now. Not everyone’s experience will be the same. Make your own assumptions and go with YOUR gut, not others.
Depends on the department, to be honest, but it sounds like the Art department might be the same as Media. It is definitely a toxic mentality, and people in leadership roles are the absolute worst. I worked there for a while, and every day was anxiety-ridden, and all the calls with internal teams were just a yelling match. Also, a fair point on Knoxville, you either love it or hate it. And there are no other agencies even remotely close. It almost feels cultish when you are there, because everyone knows Tombras and either respects you or despises you.
If you can work for them in Atlanta, you’d at least have plenty of other option so fit did t work out. If you work for them out of Knoxville… hope you like Knoxville. Because if it downer work out, there’s zero other opportunities nearby. And Nashville is 3.5 hrs away.
The only guy I know that ever worked there was only the biggest assholes I’ve ever encountered in advertising. And he worked there quite a while. So that somewhat speaks to the culture for me.
