Dan is a good dude and it was only a matter of time before he got a great CCO gig. If Chris can save Chiat NY (and he did, it was garbage water before he got there) then Dan will be fine at Havas.
He’s gunna try real hard. But... so did the last few guys.
Chief
No matter how great the individual, it’s nearly impossible to fix a broken system UNLESS the powers that be want the system fixed. I hope I’m wrong but looking at Havas’ history these last 10 years, it doesn’t look like they do.
Great point ACD4. He seems like a great leader and creative but it’s the rest of the leadership team that is their own worst enemy. Look at who’s leading. Who they’ve promoted. Are they bullies that just look out for themselves, or good leaders and people? How they’ve treated their people over the year. Aren’t they notorious for mass layoffs on a pretty regular basis?
I’m surprised Havas didn’t hire diversity. Especially by how much they’ve been preaching it lately.
Yup, all talk. Not surprised.
If they fully give Dan the reigns, yes.
Rains* sorry for the typo
Love Dan. Great dude. Great boss.
I’ll save Havas
I’m not the creative that Havas deserves but the one it needs.
Can we just root for the guy? It’s a really tough gig. I think he’ll give it his best. If he fails, he fails. He tried. Let’s clap for the guy. If he succeeds, he succeeds. Kudos Dan. Let’s clap for the guy. Cool? Cool.
Hadn’t seen this news! He’s great and excited for this. Interesting that he’s now the second high profile ECD to leave Joan without much famous so work.
Good point. Dan did basically no interesting work in his time there, nor did Dave and dan before him. So what’s the problem with Joan?
Great leader, great creative, great guy.
Dan is the man. He was my instructor at AdHouse. Patient, down to earth, taught me to look at advertising differently. The man can command a room and his energy is infectious
@CW3 that’s fair. We unfortunately work in an industry that’s more of a fraternity where people get jobs based on recommendations from past partners. Saw someone ask about how important working at a big agency is. I’m starting to think that it’s not so much about the works as it is about more connections. So and so leaves BBDO and goes to Wieden and recommends you; even though you don’t have the best portfolio, they swear you’re great and just haven’t been given the right opportunity.
I get it. It was infuriating for me when I was busting my ass to get into agencies and then I see VCU students getting hired based on the fact that they’re VCU students...meanwhile I’m being told my book can compete with VCU. That’s not a knock at VCU but you can’t deny it opens doors.
I’m getting off topic, but that was just a long winded way of saying I agree with you.
Another white dude. Great job Havas. So many deserving women, people of color could have taken that job and improved Havas dramatically. Nothing against Dan. Just disappointed on the missed opportunity.
Help me understand. What assumptions?
But something remains the same all the time. No one says anything good about JOAN. Seems like such a lovely place to be. Guess not.
