1. Fake it till you make it.
2. Everyone’s pretending, nobody really knows anything.
3. It’s okay to ask questions. In fact, it’s encouraged.
4. Ask for forgiveness, not permission (except for independence and trading - take those seriously).
5. Building personal relationships with people is better for networking than building professional relationships. Really get to know your managers and coworkers on a personal level.

A small one I’m getting better at is just making sure there is clear communication about tasks, responsibilities, etc.

I’m working with small team of 5 and a few weeks back I started sending Minutes-style follow up emails after some meetings saying like “ Hey Manager, just confirming I’m working on X task and will have it to you by Y.”

She already commented to my coach about how I’m taking so much “initiative.” So, a small thing but communicating up is valued

An agency I freelance for wants to hire me full-time. They told me for a Sr Copywriter, 100-110k. I countered with 125-150.

I also said I'm interested in a higher-level title - I currently freelance as a Creative Director of Copy elsewhere (they don't have that title at this agency.)

They came back and said yes to the title and to 125, with a 6 month review that could raise it to 145.

Which is good for Sr Copy, but low for CD/ACD level. Don't want to screw myself over. What to say now?

Anyone hear about PA’s hospital shutdown bc of the private company that promised to “expand its services” but ran it into the ground? It’s an hr away from me and has sorely impacted the community. There’s a special place in hell for people who profit off of Americans’ loss of healthcare. This is why healthcare shouldn’t be private to begin with.

I am a VP with compensation of ₹48Lpa in India. Have an offer of €65K in Germany. The German offer is at a lower position and lower compensation as I do not know German (as yet) and senior roles would require client interaction (German clients).

I see it as an opportunity to get my foot into Germany on a EU Blue Card and then look for something better once there.

I am in a non-IT role.

Any thoughts?
