Has anybody experience in giving up the LPR status after leaving the US for work and residency in another country/homecountry? How hard is everyone pushing their corporate clients to authorize nonresident assignees whose only 2020 US compensation was the value of their 2019 tax preparation?
My clients are pushing back on it this year, and I can't say I blame them. If I were in their shoes, I'd rather take the risk of not filing than the expense of filing again. Turbo tax is telling me I’m about to get hit with a $3k+ tax bill. I got married in 2019 (my income is 130k, hers is 60k) but I didn’t have extra pay withheld on my W4 in 2020.
