From my experience, internal moves still usually go through the formal application and interview process. I’ve also seen situations where being internal doesn’t necessarily give you much of an advantage, and sometimes it can even feel harder because people already associate you with your current role. It really depends on the company and the hiring manager though.
So true! Thanks for the response.
You can technically apply for an internal promotion but I’ve never received one that way. Talk to your boss or mentors about the job and explain what you want to do. Introduce yourself to the hiring manager AFTER you talk to your boss. Blind applying is poor form.
Great point! Thanks for sharing.

Finance rarely hires externally at my company for promotions. You apply internally and interview with the rest of the applicants. If you make your wants known to leaders, often times they’ll let hiring managers know and the hiring manager will actually reach out to you.
This is awesome! What company do you work at if you don’t mind me asking?
