“Find a mentor.” Having a mentor can be helpful, what women actually need is a champion with influence who will actively advocate for you behind closed doors, not just offer advice over coffee. Men get sponsors who fight for their advancement... women deserve the same
I mean, getting a mentor’s not bad advice, but you definitely need an advocate or champion too.
"be likeable". Not one person I know in the leadership roles or senior roles are likeable. So that eas definitely trash advice!
You need to be softer and less blunt..
"Drink the Kool aid" - I almost laughed when I was told that. I didn't follow the advice, but it was shocking someone would actually say it's a good idea (nevermind the actual reference is appalling).
It's more about luck than hard work, so work only as hard as you need to. Don't know if this was genius advice or bad advice, but it hasn't served me too well.

Watch your tone. I will never forgive the person who told me that garbage.
Me (a senior) chatting socially with two senior managers I work with…
SM1: (my name) you realize you were sought out for that project right? It’s a compliment, you have a good reputation
SM2: (somewhat quietly) dude don’t tell her that, she’ll get an ego…
Horrible!
While I was very inexperienced and at my first corporate job, I thought I found a mentor outside of the job and was telling him about how my colleague tried to steal some of my deals. I was not confrontational and didn’t know how to talk to the colleague so I went to my manager who was out of office and messaged me saying “we’ll just let him run with it”. “Mentor” told me to tell HR and say I was being sexually harassed. I only spoke with HR who escalated it to my boss’s boss (the VP) who was not happy he had to be involved.
OMG. Worst mentor ever!!
“Take this project, the lead said he would protect your upcoming time off.”
