What's the worst mistake you've ever made at work? This week I made a bit of a typo that ended up costing the company a couple thousand bucks to fix. 😓 Even though mistakes are inevitable, how do you prevent yourself from dwelling on them?

Attention to detail is the key.

Employees making occasional mistakes is a risk that is factored in when a company goes into business and hires people. So, in that sense, it should not only be acceptable but expected that you will make them sometimes. Also, you can actually be viewed positively if you make a mistake and own up to it and fix it going forward; you come across as mature and accountable. In my role, what gives me peace is mistakes are tracked along with other metrics and so I can see factually that I make fewer errors than my peers. So when I do eventually make one, I know I’m still doing better than most. Hope that helps.

Situation: got an offer from firm X; highly likely to get a better offer from firm Y but official offer would take a couple of more weeks in best case scenario. However, firm X’s offer validity about to run out. Would you: (1) accept X’s offer now but rescind later if Y converts (2) ask X for additional time to decide (they’re “prestigious” and may not offer additional time...) (3) Play straight, decline X and hope Y converts (4) any other creative ideas ...???

If you receive an offer how can you ask for more time other than the two weeks to give notice? I would like a week or two to myself before I start working for a new company - is that too much to ask for?

Why are FIRE minded people into having multiple investment properties? It sounds like a nightmare having to deal with tenants and if you want dividends, can’t you just invest in REIT or preferred stock ETF? Are returns that much better?

"Everybody can be a leader" some say... "Leaders are nurtured not born" say others... True.

But... this is also true: "not everybody wants to be a leader" (whether they can or can't be). It is a fairly common practice in organizations with traditional career management structures for people to "be promoted" into leadership roles as the "end steps of the corporate ladder" that was climbed doing technical work. And, unfortunately, this doesn't work all the time

I realized a slow pace at work is really bad for me. A couple years ago I was experiencing burn out from my fast paced job supporting transactions, and believed by moving to a slower job in a lower cost area, I would be sailing off to the sunset. Wrong, I spend weeks following up with other teams, often times they forgot what we discussed, so I spent 50% if the time reminding them of the topics and next steps. I spend most of my time writing memos no one will read.
