What's your best piece of advice for someone just starting out as an account manager? Coming from a customer relations role, so lots of experience with unhappy customers, but I'm nervous about the new role and expectations.

As an account manager, you need to have thick skin, be assertive, and know how to persuade, whereas customer service is more about being empathetic and understanding

In my experience, I've noticed that the account managers that I've enjoyed working with and who can navigate people relationships conflicts are those who have customer service/relations experience. Lean into your strengths! A great account manager can read the room well, communicate ideas clearly, navigate a situation with limited info and has strong business acumen.

At the start, focus on getting to know the people on your team and how things work. Understand what's expected of you in your role and think about where you feel comfortable and where you need to learn or be taught new things. Everyone starts from somewhere.

Happy to answer your specific question if you wanna dm me.

1099 or w-2 ? I have been given the option though the company prefers w-2. It’s a day rate booking couple of months or more (no end date). I already have 1099 from similar company this year and am leaning towards 1099, but I don’t want to be difficult. I do take home office deduction and they are not supplying any equipment. Suggestions?

One of my direct reports has asked about going part time. They currently manage special reports in a bi-weekly publication, working closely with sales, freelance writers, and an internal designer. Job duties are primarily project management and editing/proofreading. As the first read on articles, they need to have an understanding of the material (business/regulation). Has anyone had experience with job sharing in this type of a role?

Additional Posts in Account Management

Right so here’s a bit of a dilemma I work to a much higher standard at home and it’s this high standard that means I’m in line for a promotion. I’ve grown so much and I feel really strong in my role I’m also busier than ever. The problem is we’re going back into the office and I don’t want to go in if it’s just going to be senior management in asking me to get them lunches for client meetings or fetch a glass of water and cutlery for meeting rooms. Definitely not ready to go back to that….

I don’t want to miss the right person because of my bias, so im wondering how many healthcare related AMs have healthcare/clinical experience… thanks in advance!
