What’s your opinion on posting prices for service-based businesses (on the website or collateral). I like to post the price because I don’t want to waste time with clients that don’t have the budget. I’ve heard from some sales professionals to not publicly post - to get them bought in emotionally before telling them the price.

Is this actually a problem for you? In other words do you constantly have people price shopping and then being really surprised by your price.

I feel like depends on what your service is and how similar your price is to your competition. Or if you price is a competitive advantage.

That’s a great perspective, thank you. Some people are surprised, others aren’t - but I’m not trying to be cost competitive or the lowest price. I work one-on-one with clients for strategic planning and/or advisory services. So it’s more about the value exchanged than the dollar amount. Thanks, this helped me see the situation from a different angle.

I just started posting projects with set scopes and fees, that clients can purchase directly on my website if they want with online checkout (or contact me for something custom or do go through the normal contract-and-invoice process). I can't tell you if it's working because I just published a handful this week, but I did it for the same reason you mentioned (to qualify prospects based on budget), but also because I find the proposal-->contract/agreement-->payment process to be too lengthy/arduous, especially for smaller projects/activities that I'm constantly scoping. I'm hoping to speed that process up while providing transparency and efficiency for clients. I'm leaving off projects/services that I'd really want to sell a prospect on the value of, but for more tactical/one-off small things I don't see it as important to get them "hooked" before sharing pricing, and each project's description highlights its main value/benefits anyways.

I've highlighted ranges for projects/services in the past, or said "Starting at $X..." to set expectations, so that's always an option that doesn't box you into a set price. I also have prospects select their budget range on my request a quote form to help qualify leads, and if it's a referral, I tend to ask for a range of what they'd hope to invest when we speak.

I like this idea a lot - thanks for sharing! How do you book and pay on the website, do you use the built in website tools or have a CRM? I like making it easier to pay and less paperwork for the client. I’m doing something similar with fixed scope services published, but I do other offerings on a customized basis based on client needs.

So, I’m interviewing for a position that fits perfectly, HR likes my profile, had great conversations with them. Today I had a Panel interview with HR and the hiring manager. The manager is not experienced, it’s her first r manager role and she’s been in it for 3 months. I was prepared but was out of breath the entire interview, had a knot in my throat, had trouble finding my words. It’s like I had PTSD when this manager came into the picture. Ever had that?

When I was a device driver developer with 2 years relevant experience I had got calls from Nvidia and Qualcomm. Unfortunately I wasn't able to crack the interviews back then.

For next 5 years I worked mostly on application development and broadening my exposure. I am not getting even a single call from such companies now.

Is it a good idea to rebrand myself as a device driver developer so that I can get calls again?
