When I was pregnant, I told my 4th graders around the halfway point. I asked them to write a story about their family and then gently incorporated my news into the mix. They were SO excited and asked the funniest questions—one even asked if I’d name the baby after them. lol!

What a great way to share such wonderful news with your students. BTW, congratulations!
I think as long as you can avoid your students asking you where babies come from you’ll be fine. Tell them that you’re expecting. Because if you’re leaving in May, I don’t know if you’ll make it to the end of school year or you’ll leave just just before the school year ends, but it’s not like you’re gonna like leave mid year and leave thing you know leave the students hanging at the substitute at not for very long so I think I’ll be happy with for you and just tell him hey I’m expecting you know probably won’t really notice

I isually tell the students about things that are important. Most kiddos are excited about babies. Also, if they hear it from someone elsemait takes away that connection.
They will be so excited! I'd share the ultrasounds (I did with my high school boys only recovery school). I loved the response.
With 3rd graders, I'd get a list of names you're considering as the year progresses (if you guys have names early and all that) and have them vote on a name. Maybe guess the sex (if you're into finding out) and then have a "reveal" party for them. It's fun!

I taught at a private school. One of my students was my oldest daughter's boyfriend. His parents, who were the leaders of the school were some of our best friends. We found out 8 months after my oldest died that we were pregnant. My friend's husband extatically announced our pregnancy! Of course, they are our youngest daughter's godparents, and to this day their son is like a big brother to my youngest daughter.
