One more pathetic interview experience. This time it is @wissen . They took my written test, i cleared all the 3 tech interviews, HR round done, CTO round done. Now during the offer release they told MD is not approving due to mixed feedback of the initial rounds now one more tech round u need to give, i said okay, that guy only asked me 1 question and completed the interview. Saying knowledge gap. Now Offer they are not releasing . Thanks for wasting everyone's time . Wissen Technology

I want it to be optional forever. Gives me way more time to interact with the people who actually matter in my personal life. Plus the travel time saved is alot!
I see no impacts to professional life apart from those tea and cig breaks which I'm not fond of. We can collab excellently over digital means.

I agree but this is not the case everywhere. This is only possible if you have like minded people around you. From my experience, I found only slackers around me. The only person I found who synced with my vibes and was willing to go that extra mind to figure out an issue was my onsitw counterpart. So I have been doing digital collab for ages now and its not an issue for me.
Again for many if you have likeminded people on your team, physical collab can be enriching. But again for many, its not the same and teammates refuse to collab in a contributing manner.
Regarding tea breaks, yes it's good for networking but I don't find any point in taking a tea break every 30mins which my teammates used to do in my last organization. Also, most of the time, networking and politics have a very thin boundary. So its an additional headache. People tend to speak alot of stuffs and if I have to be carefully considering what to respond to so as to remain diplomatic even during my tea break, I could do without such a tea break.
Might not be the same thing for everyone but mostly it is this.
I believe people have been networking over the last 1.5years now without doing networking over tea and that's going rather okayish. It all depends and people cam adapt.
Tea and cigs are a means at the end. If you are denied that option, you will find another way to network as we all have been doing so far during the pandemic.
All in all it depends on perspectives. Not one size can fit all. I might be today liking wfh but tomorrow something changes and I might want to go out to the office. So I do believe both options should be open for people. But yes wfh option will allow the organizations to tap into much unexplored potential as there are a % of IT professionals who just cannot travel anywhere and everywhere for jobs due to responsibilities back at home/family.
No to office. Yes to work from home

No, don't worry they won't call till 2023. Already 3rd and 4th wave talks are going on.
Thrice a week is good enough. By not going to office you miss on a lot of things.

The biggest shortcoming of WFH IMO is your interpersonal skills dont develop at all or develop too slowly and not to the levels you desire. When you are in an actual office you can efficiently interact with people, drive meetings, read people and their gestures, get hold of them far quickly, build your network.
How you walk and talk on the floor alone builds your image which is going to be helpful. Have you met kind of people who just attract the room with their body language or words? How are you going to learn that if you don't see one? If you are a fresher you can learn from your team mates or manager. You can copy even copy them. When you are working from home, you miss on all these things. When you are in office and take your issue to someone, you are talking to an actual human being. On chat, it is just a matter of few text exchanges.
The people you meet in your professional life in office shape you differently than other relationships. Few appreciation emails on your name aren't going to help you build your image unless people know you in person.
I learnt all these stuff in my second job. I built relationships with people horizontally and vertically. Just saying a hi to people makes them remember your face. That helped me to get my work done faster.
They can call us if things don't deteriorate further this year..and also they have vaccinated all employees..However the offices mostly will follow a hybrid approach in case it reopens
