I need to find a position that allows me to be paid more and not strung along into the trap of needing to work harder to maybe get paid more. I appreciate that you have to prove yourself a bit to get more money, but it’s a line that gets crossed a lot.

True! I agree with this! Going above and beyond is fine within reason but I would hate to be performing above my level as if it were my normal role without getting any incentives or compensated for it
I can also see both perspectives, and I think a lot of people would go with A, they want to be paid more before doing more. However, that's not really how it works. You have to step up and show you're capable before you're going to get more money.

This is true! How can you pay someone more if you aren’t sure if they are able to handle the higher demands of the position they are aiming for! Definitely a catch 22

I have always looked for this when was applying for new roles.

One tip, never apply for a job that has staff management. Or at least has the minimum if possible.
