When you are a young attorney you think that many of the more senior attorneys above you are the most brilliant people in the world. When you start practicing law for a few years you realize that the only thing they had on you was experience. They make just as many mistakes (if not more) than you. The only difference is they are better at hiding them.

Senior attorneys don’t know shit. What disturbs me is that the attorneys that were senior to the now-senior attorneys treated them so unkindly, and nobody sat down the now-senior attorneys and told them that this treatment was wrong.

I’m a junior associate who is entering my fourth year of practice. Mistakes are going to be made - this profession is a learning process. What matters is how you react and move forward. What I’ve learned from senior attorneys is how NOT to react to mistakes.

Sorry for the rant, OP.

The thing is you’re still going to make mistakes even when you learn from them. This job is so difficult and requires you to be on top of 1 million things so there are occasions where things will slip through the cracks.

Yes and no. Some of the more senior attorneys are probably smarter than you realize. And hiding problems isn’t the key. That is bound to blow up in your face. Fixing them is.

No problem - you def have something special at your firm

like

Experienced attorneys (11-20 years) are 10x more likely to be sued for legal malpractice than junior attorneys (<5 years).

I represent small law firms as outside general counsel - there’s good, bad and brilliant lawyers at all levels of experience.

Coming up with a plan for mistakes before they happen is key, hiding them is not - it’ll come out sooner or later.

I’m notoriously bad with “aesthetic” and design. I’ve hired all my vendors, including lighting and florals, but am now starting to think through what other decorations/logistical items are needed - signage, dessert table trays, guest book, bar top, etc... whenever I google how to start thinking about wedding decorations all the sites are just telling me to rent linens vs buy frames, which... isn’t helpful. How is everyone else here tackling this?!

Hey all, ~7 years I've been working with fixed income analytics (duration, spread, etc) and perf attribution for institutional inv mgmt firm with close to $400B aum.

I'm being laid off in a couple months. Should I say I'm being laid off in interviews? Or is that a negative? I get severance if I stay the whole time so ideally I can time it. Have finance degree, CFA charter.

Most of work has been IG, but also some HY, EM and equity. Want to go into equity research/PM- worried I'm pigeonholed

I do digital marketing for a PI firm. I want to chat about Yelp. Obviously it’s a platform built for consumers, not for businesses. Naturally, former clients go there to bash or rave about their experience. While I know Yelp’s algorithm, I was wondering if anyone has any advice on pushing the negative reviews down so they’re not the first few that populate? The review replies are specific, detailed, & to the point as to why they’d write it, the outcome of their case, etc. I appreciate any help!

It’s tough, between 2 different managing partners who are different but my cases are pretty 50/50 between them. My previous firm I had far fewer cases.
