What is a good salary for a director in NY?
Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

I would recommend you to review the whole package and negotiate all at the same. Talk about what matters to you the most first. The aim is to have least amount of back and forth during the process. Have plan B, C, D is place if they can’t meet you where you want them to. Good luck!
I think most people try to negotiate base salary first and if that seems non-negotiable they will pivot to negotiating bonuses, 401k matches, and/or PTO. I'd just focus on what you actually really want.
Most companies don't give much room for negotiation in the base salary as most of the other benefits are calculated on the base salary.
Things like: Annual Bonus, RSUs, 401k are all a % of base salary. If you try to negotiate top of the range for base, then the TC will get to more than 95 percentile which most companies don't want (especially in this market). Also, if one comes in with top of the range salary, the yearly increments thereafter are also affected as there's no room to grow unless you encroach upon the next salary range.
I'm right there with you, I care a lot less about benefits than I do about base compensation. Stock options don't really mean a lot to me since most companies don't even let you do anything with them for several years.
